Today I bring you one of my favorite designs yet! Who doesn’t like chocolate covered strawberries? I know I love ’em. They are even a Paleo-friendly treat when 70% dark chocolate is used! This design may not be as satisfying as the real treat, but it is relatively simple to re-create, and will definitely have you craving the real deal.
I started with a base of China Glaze’s “Cranberry Splash” covering a little more than half of my nail. I left room towards the nail bed so I could add in some leaves.
Next, I added the stems/leaves of the berries. I took Revlon’s “Posh” on a detailer brush, and started from the center of the top of the berry and flicked the brush upwards toward my nail bed. I did this a few times at different angles to create a fanned out look. You can also see I ended up changing the middle finger’s design. I ended up painting a downward pointing triangle with “Cranberry Splash”. I decided I wanted to have the tip of a strawberry on one of my nails, so that is why I switched it. Next, I used the tip of a black striper, and lightly dabbed it across the berries to create the look of seeds. This step really transforms the nails into strawberries. Add as many seeds as you think is necessary to bring the berries to life.
The last step is to add the chocolate. I used a large dotting tool to do this. I dipped it into some of Zoya’s “Louise” and dotted and dragged it down towards the end of the nail. Next, I used the same dotting tool and stippled “Louise” in between these chocolate lines to fill in the bottom of the berries. You want there to be a wavy line where the chocolate and the berry meet. You can see how mine looked below. I did this for the tip of the strawberry on my middle finger too, however I just went along the contour of the berry shape instead of filling in the rest of my nail. The final final step is to add two chocolate droplets falling off of the middle berry. I made two small brown dots underneath the berry and then used a toothpick to connect them to the berry.
That is it! I hope you enjoyed this design. I think it is adorable and it is a great subliminal message for you Valentine if you are in the mood for a sweet treat! Let me know if you try this out. I think the strawberries on their own would be a great design for summertime too. I hope you are all having a great weekend.
